Vivian Horan Fine Art is pleased to announce Just Minimalist, an exhibition featuring works by seven pillars of the Minimalist movement. Carl Andre, Dan Flavin, Donald Judd, Sol LeWitt, Robert Mangold, Agnes Martin, and Robert Ryman remain connected to the minimalist tradition through their commitment to highly conceptual and simplified abstraction. With works spanning from 1966-2002 and utilizing a magnitude of materials including copper, wood, and watercolor, this exhibition is a testament to the innovation and longevity of these artists.

The artists’ sleek structures, use of fluorescent light and repeating geometric forms reflect a backlash to the reign of Abstract Expressionism that mimicked the politically and socially charged environment of 1960’s America. Presented in this exhibition is Sol LeWitt’s Untitled (1999). This work exemplifies his quintessential white wood cubes that explore variations and permutations while concurrently maintaining a strict sense of order. Similarly, both Donald Judd’s fir desk and Carl Andre’s exploration with timber showcase the various media with which these artists staunchly opposed the previous generation’s methods and concepts.

Members of the Minimalist movement have become synonymous with advancement and forward thinking. These artists continue to push their own creative boundaries while further developing the ideas with which they founded their movement. This exhibition captures a collection of works that present Minimalism’s physical and conceptual strengths while showcasing the versatility of its founders.
